Week 4 Day 4 Genesis 20 Matthew 19

7 February, 2015

Genesis 20
Abraham moves again. And again he tells the ruler that Sarah is his sister. This time God speaks direct to Abimelech and tells him he had better stop.

Abimelech confronts Abraham and Abraham twists the truth. The father of both he and Sarah is the same but they have different mothers. Does that make it right?!

Abimelech is gracious though and gives Abraham livestock and silver. Abraham also prayed for Abimelech and healed his household. Way to go to turn your enemy towards you!

Matthew 19
The Pharisees again challenge Jesus. This time about divorce. And now we get Jesus’ feeling about marriage. For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and shall be united firmly (joined inseparably) to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh? [Gen. 1:27; 2:24.] So they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man put asunder (separate). (‭Matthew‬ ‭19‬:‭5-6‬ AMP)

The chapter goes on then about allowing children to come to Jesus before it twists again with a testing question of the old law to His current teachings.

Jesus says we can do things right but if our heart is not for God then we still will lack. Jesus answered him, If you would be perfect [that is, have that spiritual maturity which accompanies self-sacrificing character], go and sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have riches in heaven; and come, be My disciple [side with My party and follow Me]. (‭Matthew‬ ‭19‬:‭21‬ AMP)

But many who [now] are first will be last [then], and many who [now] are last will be first [then]. (‭Matthew‬ ‭19‬:‭30‬ AMP) Don’t ever think you’re not enough to be first but don’t ever think you’re too good to be last.
